How To Prevent Black Ice Traffic Tickets

As we have stated in a previous article between the years 2015 and 2019, there were around 220,526 winter-related crashes in Michigan.

We have already discussed the driving techniques that you need to know about. With that, it is important to make sure that you know how you can prevent getting a traffic ticket in case of an accident. Let us look at the facts.

You can get a traffic ticket when driving on black ice

Keep in mind that Michigan laws are very strict when it comes to driving safety. As such, Michigan laws require drivers to move at a speed that is reasonable and proper for the specific road conditions.

If you are driving at a speed that is below the speed limit, you can get a speeding ticket if the road does not allow for such a speed.

For example, if you are traversing a highway where accidents often occur and black ice accidents are known as hazards in the community. If this happens, you should not just drive below the speed limit but you should drive as slowly as you possibly can. This is the second fact that we will discuss but the other fact of the matter is that you can get a traffic ticket if you are driving hazardously in an area.

It can take up to ten times longer for you to stop

It can take up to ten times longer for you to stop on snowy roads or black ice roads compared to normal roads. Hence, you should make sure that you allow room between your vehicle and the vehicle that is ahead of you. It will give you more time to react and brake compared to when you are driving too closely to the other vehicle.

Signal quickly and properly

Your turn signals can be your best friend during treacherous weather conditions. Make sure that you turn your signal on as quickly and as properly as possible to also give them to the vehicle behind you to move and react based on your actions.

Be 100% present in driving

Driving under normal conditions is already requiring a hundred percent focus. When you are driving in black ice conditions or snowy conditions, the requirement is even greater since you would be required to not just watch out for the vehicle around you but your surroundings while you are driving as well.

You can get a traffic ticket for failing to watch out for black ice. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to always drive as safely as you possibly can. Your driver’s license may not always be on the line but your life is.
