What is a Psychosexual Evaluation in Michigan Sex Crimes Cases?

If you follow legal statutes and even just crime shows you have probably heard about psychosexual evaluation (PSE). Psychosexual evaluation is a psychological assessment administered by a licensed psychologist.

In this article, let us give you a background on what a psychosexual evaluation is.

Have I seen this before?

You have probably learned about this evaluation in some of the celebrated cases in the United States. You have probably seen expert psychologists give testimony on cases. You can find this in the case of Johnny Depp versus Amber Heard where expert psychologists provided a key insight into the psyche of the couple.

In Michigan sex crimes, a psychosexual evaluation aims to provide much more than a testimony of the psychologist.

So, what happens in a PSE?

In a PSE, the licensed psychologist would collect information about the subject’s biographical and sexual history.

The therapist will conduct a clinical interview and will also conduct many psychometric tests.

Hence, you should expect an interview where you will be required to answer some questions and you will also be required to take many psychometric tests.

What happens after the PSE?

After the PSE, the licensed psychologist will create a clinical opinion as to whether the individual has the propensity to commit a future criminal sexual act or his propensity to become criminal recidivism.

After determination, the psychologist will also issue a treatment plan where the subject will be given the tools to control sexual urges and also avoid any potential criminal situation in the future.

Now that you know the basics of the PSE, the next articles will also discuss this kind of evaluation more and what you should expect from it.
